Dr. Blake Underwood, DACM, LAc.

My clinical practice is at the heart of what I do. Providing my patients with the care they need isn't only what I've been trained to do, it's a privilege to be a part of their recovery in any capacity.

I have 5 timeslots for appointments:

Evaluation - 60 minutes (Focus on diagnosis and treatment planning)

Treatment - 25, 40, and 55 minutes (Focus on getting work done!)

Telehealth - 30 minutes (Available after an In-Person Evaluation, if physical treatment is not needed. Your insurance likely does not cover these visits).

I find that most patients require more time in the beginning of a treatment plan. More time for needles, herb/lifestyle counselling, and/or bodywork, whatever we agree your treatment plan should entail. After some improvement, there is generally less work to be done, and less time is needed to make meaningful progress. My ultimate goal is to get you back out in the world enjoying what you do, depending on outside intervention as little as possible. Appointments are stacked in this way to help support and solidify this idea, although there is always flexibility around what you may be needing at any given time.

Availability a.o. 9/1/26:

9:00a-6:00p on Tuesdays and Thursdays

9:00a-3:00p on Sundays (Unavailable on the last Sunday of each month, although this is negotiable based on your need)

My Story

My healthcare journey started when I was in the 6th grade, going to the gym to start losing some weight. After losing 65 pounds, I continued on into high school and started powerlifting and bodybuilding. This continued until I was about 20 when I injured my left shoulder (partial tears of the supraspinatus and subscapularis tendons). I did my best to research what was wrong, find the problem, and fix it, and that’s exactly what happened!

I finished my undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Philosophy, with an externship at a local Physical Therapy clinic in 2019. I love exercise, and I love therapy, but after some time I began to realize being a PT wasn’t for me. During this time, I was working on one of the trauma units at a mental institution as a psychiatric technician. It was a hard job, but I loved it and considered getting a graduate education in psychology or doing an MD. I ended up leaving the mental institution due to the insomnia I acquired, and transitioned into men’s health, providing Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy and tackling other, more ingrained issues that many men suffer. This was where it was made clear to me that, when speaking and working with a real person, there doesn’t need to be a hard dichotomy between science and what science can’t quantify. Both approaches can be helpful when it comes to whole-person care, and healthcare providers should be informed by both approaches.

I then had an experience with acupuncture and herbal medicine. My insomnia I had acquired after the mental institution seemed to vanish overnight after my first acupuncture treatment, and herbs have helped eliminate my IBS symptoms, in addition to other issues. I knew that I had found something special, and I started looking for schools.

I received my Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (in conjunction with the National University of Natural Medicine), passed 3 board exams earning my status of Board Certified Diplomat of Acupuncture by the National Certification Board of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, became licensed by the Oregon Medical Board as a Licensed Acupuncturist, and immediately began practicing. Success story after success story, it’s been an absolute pleasure to help those in my community.
